1. Introduction & 4 Pillars

This video introduces Compendium Clips as a teaching series on the Catholic faith which is based upon the Compendium Catechism of the Catholic Chruch. It explores the basic meaning of catechesis and a catechism and looks at the structure of the Compendium Catechism which is organized around the 4 pillars of the Creed, the Sacraments, the Commandments, and Prayer.

4. Sacred Scripture

Looks into the nature of Sacred Scripture by considering the basic meaning of Inspiration, Inerrancy, the number of books in the Canon of Scripture, and the relationship between the Old Testament and New Testament.  It closes by offering the three criteria for the interpretation of Scripture laid out by the Church’s Magisterium. 7. Holy Trinity

Looks into the mystery of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Illustrates the central place of this doctrine among the Church’s teachings and the Christian life.  Explores the meaning of this mystery by using Scripture, the analogy of the family, a few diagrams and the Church’s precise doctrinal vocabulary. 10. Humanity

Reflects upon the six days of creation and the order which God inscribed into the visible world.  Considers humanity as the high point of God’s visible creation, how man and woman are created in the image of God, and have a body and spiritual soul. Discuses the relationship between man and woman, their mutual dignity, complementarity, and call to fruitfulness. This clip covers questions 62-71in the Compendium Catechism.

Considers the mystery of the Incarnation and the meaning of the Word made flesh.  Highlights that Jesus Christ is one divine person with two natures, a divine nature and a human nature.  Looks into the humanity of Jesus reflecting on his body, soul, human knowledge, and will.  Gives the reasons for the incarnation emphasizing Jesus’ infinite love. Reflects on the paschal mystery of Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection.  Focuses on the historical reasons for Jesus condemnation, the role of his suffering in God’s plan of salvation, and the events surrounding his passion and death such as the Last Supper and our share in his cross. Looks into the mystery and nature of the Catholic Church. Considers how the Church is the assembly of those called to salvation in Christ. Reflects on Jesus’ institution of the Church and her mission of salvation. Discusses how the Church is both visible and invisible, both human and divine. Surveys several biblical images of the Church. This clip covers questions 147-152 in the Compendium Catechism.

Continues to explore the four marks of the Church focusing on how she is Catholic and Apostolic.  Reflects on how the Church has the fullness of the means of salvation, a universal mission to the human race, and the relationship between belonging to the Church and salvation. Looks into how the Church is fundamentally related to the apostles in her origin, teaching, and structure.  This clip covers questions 166-176 in the Compendium Catechism.    

2. Divine Revelation

Explores the concept of divine revelation.  It considers the ability and limits of human reason to know God as well as how and why God revealed himself and his plan of salvation through history by deeds and words. Last, it briefly looks at the stages of salvation history all of which lead to Jesus Christ who is the fullness of revelation.  This video covers questions 1-10 in the Compendium Catechism.

5. Faith

Considers the nature and many characteristics of belief and the virtue of faith.  Offers scriptural examples to witnesses of faith.  Shows how the faith of the Catholic Church is personal, communal, and one alone.  Closes by considering the common language of faith found in formulas and Creeds, especially, the Apostles’ Creed.  This video covers questions 25-35 in the Compendium Catechism.

8. Creation

Introduces the mystery of creation and shows how this doctrine sheds light on humanity’s origin and destiny.  Reflects on the meaning of God’s glory and how it is reflected in creation.  Connects creation and Divine Providence as the way God leads his creatures toward perfection.  Addresses the problem and scandal of evil and suffering.  This clip covers questions 51-58 in the Compendium Catechism.

11. Original Sin

Discuses the original state of holiness and justice that our first parents enjoyed with God and one another.  Reflects upon the dynamic of the first human sin as recalled in the book of Genesis.  Presents the meaning of original sin and its consequences for human nature.  Looks into the meaning of the Protoevangelium or “first Gospel” of redemption. Discusses the Blessed Virgin Mary and the many graces and privileges she received from God.  Considers the virginal conception of Jesus, Mary’s perpetual virginity, and how she is the Mother of God.  Reflects on Mary’s Immaculate Conception, her Assumption into heaven, and the proper devotion Christians have for her. Continues the reflection on the paschal mystery focusing on the resurrection and glorification of Jesus.  Concentrates on how Jesus’ resurrection is both an historical event attested to by eyewitnesses and a mystery of faith filled with divine glory.  Discusses the meaning of Jesus’ ascension into heaven, his return in glory and the Last Judgment. Discusses the Catholic Church as the People of God, the Body of Christ, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Looks into why the Church is a unique people who share in Christ’s priestly, prophetic, and kingly offices. Explores how the Church is the Body and Bride of Christ. Looks into the Holy Spirit’s role of animating and bestowing gifts and charisms on the Church. This clip covers questions 153-160 in the Compendium Catechism.

3. Apostolic Tradition

Covers the concept of “tradition.” Shows how apostolic tradition is made up of sacred tradition and sacred scripture and is the way in which divine revelation is handed down. Offers some scriptural examples of where the apostles write about apostolic tradition.  Closes with the relationship among Scripture, Tradition, and the Church's Magisterium.  This video covers questions 11-17 in the Compendium Catechism.                                        

6. God

Explores the significance and meaning of the first article of the Apostles’ Creed, “I believe in God.”  Considers the oneness of God, the revelation of his name “I Am who Am” and the many perfections of his being.  Concludes by showing that God is love and thus, is a Trinity of persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  This Clip covers questions 36-43 in the Compendium Catechism.

Considers the spiritual and personal nature of angels.  Reflects on the presence and work of the holy angels in the scriptures and the life of the Church as well as their activity of contemplating God and leading man to salvation.  Looks into the fall of Satan and the other devils and their activity of tempting man to join in their sin and rebellion against God. Reflects on why Jesus Christ is the good news for humanity. Discusses the meaning of the name Jesus and his identity and mission as savior. Investigates the title Christ and Messiah and the meaning of anointed one. Considers the name Son of God and Jesus’ unique sonship. Reflects on the Church’s visible and invisible ties of unity and her separated brothers and sisters. Discusses the divine source and meaning of her holiness.
